H.1) Discussion and consideration of the resignation of the Elko County Public Defender, Matt Pennell, authorization to begin recruitment for a permanent replacement, and possible appointment of Cindy Chavkin as Interim Public Defender. The Elko County Public Defender has formally submitted his resignation, effective in mid to late June, to pursue private practice in order to be closer to his family and provide better support. In light of this resignation, staff is seeking authorization from the Board to begin the recruitment process for a new Public Defender. Additionally, in order to ensure continuity of operations and case management, staff recommends the temporary appointment of Cindy Chavkin, a current member of the Public Defender’s Office, as Interim Public Defender until a permanent appointment is made.
