Agenda Item
I.1) Discussion and consideration to nominate an Elko County representative to sit on the Secure Rural Schools Advisory Committee (SRS RAC) which is a federally established group that advises the U.S. Forest Service on how to use Title II funds from the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act to support projects on federal lands in Nevada.
Under the Secure Rural Schools Act of 2000 (reauthorized in 2015 and again in 2025), SRS RACs review and recommend land management projects that benefit local communities and federal lands. In Nevada the committee helps direct funding for projects such as:
Road and trail maintenance
Fuel treatments
Invasive plant removal
Sanitation improvements
The committee ensures that federal funds are used in ways that align with local priorities and improve collaboration between the Forest Service and community stakeholders. The committee typically has around 15 members representing diverse interests and expertise and serves a 4-year term with a potential for a second reappointment term.
Members must live in the state and often represent local government. Meetings are held one to two times a year and participation can be in-person, by phone or virtual in nature.
This meeting is open for public comment. By registering to speak, you agree to be present during the meeting time. You will be called to speak by your name.
