The council was created by Assembly Bill 236 (2019) (codified as NRS 176.014) and includes a representative from each county. The Council assists the Nevada Sentencing Commission through developing data-driven policy recommendations concerning sentencing and corrections in Nevada and assessing the outcomes related to this bill. Former County Commissioner Demar Dahl has served as the Elko County representative for the past 4 years and has asked to be replaced.
