Q.2) Discussion and consideration of the status of the Secure Rural Schools and Communities Act (SRS) at the federal level, and approval of a $5,000 contribution for Fiscal Year 2026 to Robert Weidner in support of his ongoing advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C. The Secure Rural Schools and Communities Act provides critical funding to counties with National Forest lands to support roads, schools, and other essential services. Continued reauthorization and full funding of the program requires sustained federal advocacy. Robert Weidner has long served as an advocate on behalf of rural counties nationwide, including Elko County, working to ensure SRS as remains a priority in Congress. The proposed $5,000 contribution would support his continued efforts for not only SRS, but also his advocacy for new Department of Interior policies related to RS2477 Rights of Way across public lands during the federal appropriations cycle. In addition, Mr. Weidner has requested that an Elko County Commissioner travel to Washington, D.C. during the week of May 12, 2025, to participate in meetings with congressional representatives to further strengthen support for the program.
