Agenda Item

L.1) Pursuant to the published Public Hearing Notice, discussion and consideration of public feedback and input in regards to redirecting a portion of Elko County's current ad valorem (property) tax rate to the school district capital fund for capital construction and improvement projects.       AB519 (2023) requires Elko County to adopt an ordinance and levy an ad valorem (property) tax rate between 1 to 25 cents to be deposited to the school district capital fund to pay for school district capital construction and improvement projects no later than June 30, 2024.  The Bill authorizes every county with less than 100,000 population to levy a rate which exceeds the property tax cap of up to 25 cents.   The Board of County Commissioners have passed an ordinance which requires an ad valorem (property) tax rate between 1 and 25 cents to be set by resolution.  A resolution setting the tax rate has not yet been adopted.  The Commissioners unanimously voted not to exceed the property tax rate at the February 7, 2024 meeting.   The Board of County Commissioners will adopt the resolution allocating or redirecting a portion of the County's current ad valorem (property) tax rate at a future meeting.
