Agenda Item

J.1) Discussion and consideration regarding the pipeline and water rights in Montello and Pilot Valley.  Elko County currently maintains a water pipeline that runs between a water source on Pilot Peak and a location just outside the town limits in Montello. The water currently flowing down the pipeline is not being used by the town of Montello.

I live in Montello and know a lot of people that live outside of town. My understanding was the water station was put in the park for the the people that live outside of town to use. I feel it would be inhumane to shut that water off to those who need and use it.

Any person who votes to remove water/rights from people in Montello/Pilot Valley must know how valuable drinking water is every time you and your children turn on your kitchen sink, take a shower, flush the toilet. Think of the legal aspect. All people need and deserve water.
Have you been to the site or done any home work? Have looked at any legal papers? Or do you make judgment sitting at a desk and by word of mouth.
Think of your vote every time you and you family take a DRINK OF WATER.
Shame on you if you take peoples water from them.

Elko County has failed to maintain and operate Montello's water. Over 40 years of mismanagement. Your solution to fixing it is to shut people's water off?

The Southline fed a water tank directly across from Montello. The County failed to maintain it. The empty tank was destroyed by the wind. This should have been montello's back up and irrigation water.

Why isnt the county stopping the criminal activity of the ranch in utah who is illegally diverting our water. We dont know for sure because they refuse access. Is it a coincidence that we have no water pressure?

Please table this agenda item until we can have transparent and honest solutions. Do not shirk your responsibilities.

Montello goes beyond 2 streets. This town was a melting pot of RR workers from around the world. IMany lived on the outskirts. It is time to include Pilot and Tecoma in decisions that affect everyone.
    We the People.
The best government is the less government.

    Thank you.

Why separating Pilot with Montello is a choice you are requesting. How could you request taking charge of water here? I understand that things are more expensive and you need to charge more here in town. Why take water from others who need water and come to get I. What have you actually done for Montello? No protection here. No highway patrol here. Taxes going up because we are growing and you just take the water? Why don't you protect this small historical town ? You should be honorable and working for us. Thank you.

The Southline belongs to the town of Montello. After doing a lot of research I am concerned about the mismanagement of this valuable resource by the County of Elko. In 2018 Pilot Peak Ranches LLC applied for the rights to the springs that feed the Southline to use the water not being used by Montello. A company in Utah that protects the trust for these springs objected to this. This prompted the Utah state chief water engineer to come out and look at the situation. In a document filed on the Utah water rights site the engineer clearly states that he contacted the person in charge of managing the Southline for Montello and was told that Montello was not using the water. This is clearly mismanagement and an undermining of the rights of the people of Montello to the water from these springs. If the definition of the town of Montello is defined by only the people within the boundary of the town of Montello and this water had to be used exclusively by these people then the people of Montello should have been made aware of this. The people of Montello would have worked with county to make sure that their valuable resource was protected. I feel that this issue be tabled until an investigation can be done on the mismanagement of this line and the people of Montello are given an opportunity to rectify the technicality of the water being used by the people within the township boundaries.

Many people have come to rely on this water and without it, years of hard work is vanishing before our eyes (trees, gardens, water for animals) . There is currently barely any water coming out of the south line. This needs to be addressed. What is Christiansen doing to Montello's springs? I have been here since 1971, this water has always served this valley. This is where it should stay. What about people that have paid to hook to it? Spent thousands of dollars for hook up costs and plumbing costs. Do they have to sit back and watch years of hard work die before their eyes? Without this water we are going to turn into the valley of broken dreams!

I oppose elko county trading, selling or bartering the water of Montello that was given by the railroad to the town.i also oppose any cattle corporation that has already disregarded residents rights by overgrazing and destruction of private land to have any gratuity or any say in what happens with regards to the water of Montello or pilot valley

As a resident of Montello, I ask that the voting on this agenda be tabled today.
The people of Montello have a proposal for this water situation, and need the time to prepare and to take action.
    Thank you.

No To Selling MONTELLO's Southline water. No to shutting down MONTELLO's water. Time to do an independent, financial audit of Elko County pertaining to Montello.

My name is Brandie O’Donald, I moved to Montello, NV just over a year ago. In which I had to prove my residency to obtain a drivers license which states Montello,NV as my residence. My family and I have depended on the potable water station for that entire time and it continues to be the primary source of water for our home. I was told by Commissioners Wilde Brough that I was illegally attaining water from the water station for my home because it is outside of the town of Montello. The criminal activity of such a transaction falls on the county for providing the service, if indeed it is an illegal transaction. Who authorized Elko county to set up such illegal accounts and why? I was also told that it was the state that was bringing the issue of so called “outsiders” using the water station up. First, I would like to ask what the purpose of the water station was in the beginning. All of Montellos “residents” have access to water, so again what was the intent of the putting in a water station? Also who exactly from the state is bringing this issue up and for what purpose? If this water station is shut down, Elko County will be condemning many homestead families to homelessness and even possibly death. The town of Montello is preparing to take the management of our water to resolve any burdens on the county due to the maintenance. Please Commissioners table the vote today and join hands with Montello residents to prevent any hardships for the people and families of this town.
