I oppose spending tax payers money to start a county fund to bail out those who choose not to follow Covid directives. There are many things OSHA fines businesses for that I'm sure different business owners would choose to disagree with. Unless the county can afford to pay all of those fines as well I do not see the logic. If anything, these rules were made even more clear than most. If a business decides, after all of the publicity and warnings to ignore it anyways, they can accept the consequences. It is certainly not fair to the hundreds of other businesses that played by the rules. Do we really get to decide which rules we choose to follow? Is that what you want our children to learn? Part of getting along in a peaceful society is to follow the rules of that society. If you don't like them - change them. But don't use my tax dollars to make a political stand when those dollars could be put to good use in our community.
While it is too late to speak to the resolution passed and sent to the Governor, this may be time for general comments about the mindset of the commision and the small but very vocal group behind it. When the pandemic was in the early stages in the US the CDC and Institutes of health said individuals wearing masks would not help stop the spread and advised against it. They lied. Their intent was to allocate the limited supply of masks and other PPE's to the medical community (themselves). The response of government officials of all stripes has been heavy-headed, self-contradictory, and only moderately effective, not to mention legally shaky. As production of PPE ramped up both commercially and as a cottage industry, the CDC admitted to their lie and urged mask wearing, governments turned thisinto legal mandates. At some point, being anti-mask became a political statement even when it was well known it was based on a central government lie. Surgeons wear masks not to protect themselves from their patients but to protect the patients from germs carried by the surgeon. This is also the case with CoVid. The primary point of a simple cloth or paper mask is to limit the trajectory of virus bearing droplets spewed by the infected, not necessarily to protect the wearer from free-floating droplets. As Nevadans we pride ourselves on looking out for each other and mask wearing should seen as a sign you care about your neighbors, not a symbol of ones' political views.
